One month later: Promises made, many promises broken

“We’ve been working very hard on this. We’ve made tremendous progress,” Trump said. “When you compare what we’ve done to other areas of the world, it’s pretty incredible.”

One month ago today, (March 13, 2020) Trump declared a national emergency.

In a Rose Garden address, flanked by leaders from giant retailers and medical testing companies, he promised a mobilization of public and private resources to attack the coronavirus.

But few of those promises have come to pass.

  • Drive-through testing largely nonexistent at retail partners.
  • Home testing promised, but not implemented.
  • No screening website to facilitate drive-through testing.
  • The president’s federal agency promises:
    • Promised to waive interest on student loans: Happened.
    • Pledged to waive regulations and laws to give medical providers flexibility to respond to the healthcare crisis. Did not happen; this is a state issue that Trump has no control over.
  • Failure in public-private partnerships:
    • “I don’t take responsibility at all.”
