A recent AP-NORC poll shows 62% of Americans disapprove of Trump’s job performance. To put it into context, 6 out of 10 Americans do not believe that Trump has handled his time in office very well. They give him some support on the economy but very weak marks on other issues.
According to the Associated Press, numbers such as these look ‘ugly’ for a first term president seeking re-election but they have remained rather consistent for Trump. He has never reached over above 42% approval rating nor dipped below 32% in any of the AP-NORC polls.
No other president has stayed within so narrow a band. Since Gallup began measuring presidential approval, Trump is the only president whose rating has never been above 50%. Still, several — Harry Truman, Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter, George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush — logged ratings worse than Trump’s lowest rating so far at some point during their time in office.
AP conducted their poll shortly after the mass shootings in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio and surveyed 1,058 U.S. adults.
Trump still shows high approval ratings among fellow Republicans with eight out of ten showing support. Only 6% of registered Democrats support Trump, which has remained consistent throughout his presidency.
He has lost a lot of support among Independent voters with only approximately 33% of them giving him high marks.
