Joe Biden has announced a slew of executive orders he plans to sign on inauguration day, undoing some of the most well-known actions of Trump’s administration.
Below are just a few:
- Lift the travel ban from mainly Muslim countries.
- Re-enter the Paris climate accords agreement.
- Extend pause on student loan payments and interest.
- Extend moratorium on evictions and foreclosures.
- Implement mask mandate on federal properties and interstate travel.
Ron Klain, Biden’s chief of staff, wrote in a statement, “We face four overlapping and compounding crises: the COVID-19 crisis, the resulting economic crisis, the climate crisis, and a racial equity crisis.
President-elect Biden will take action — not just to reverse the gravest damages of the Trump administration — but also to start moving our country forward.”
- Executive actions to help schools reopen.
- Expanded coronavirus testing and clearer public health standards.
President elect Joe Biden will also send several pieces of legislation to Congress including a sweeping immigration bill and a $1.9 trillion plan aimed at stabilizing the economy.
Although Joe Biden wants to govern in a bipartisan manner, Rep. James E. Clyburn (D-S.C.) has advised him to use executive orders to bypass those (Republicans, mainly) who wish to derail his agenda.
“He wants to govern in a bipartisan way,” Clyburn said. “But I’ve said to him that he cannot allow his programs to get hijacked by people who have some other agenda. I advised Barack Obama again and again to use executive authority, that these people were not going to work with them.”
