Trump addressed the nation today following the weekend’s back-to-back mass shootings For the first time, he called on the nation to denounce White Supremacy then immediately focused on mental illness but stated support for stricter gun legislation.
He also called for ‘involuntary confinement,’ which Fox & Friends pushed only a few hours before Trump took to the podium.
Pete Hegseth suggested the same solution on Fox & Friends this morning. https://t.co/NYlSvI0YG3

“In one voice, our nation must condemn bigotry, hatred and white supremacy. These sinister ideologies must be defeated.”
Trump also said federal law enforcement agencies would receive whatever support they needed to combat domestic terrorism.
In response to Trump’s support for stricter gun legislation and the need to address mental illness more seriously, Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said he will introduce bipartisan legislation that will encourage states to adopt more ‘red flag’ laws. Senator Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut will co-author the bill. Trump said he would support this legislation if passed but no Republican has made any mention of universal background checks, something the vast majority of Americans support.
