Richard Barnett, the 60-year-old Arkansas man charged with breaking into Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office and stealing her mail during the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol, threw a tantrum during a virtual court hearing on Thursday, yelling at the judge and his own lawyers that it wasn’t “fair” that he was still in jail weeks after his arrest.
Barnett, a self-described white nationalist, who sometimes goes by “Bigo,” was a participant in Trump’s “Stop the Steal” rally, and was photographed with his feet up on Nancy’s desk with a cattle-prod-like stun gun dangling from his belt.
“They’re dragging this out. They’re letting everyone else out,” Barnett yelled. He also added, “it’s not fair” that other rioters have been released and are awaiting trial, but he’s still locked up. “Everyone else who did things much worse are already home,” he argued.
“This has been a bunch of crap… They can’t keep pushing me out month by month,” he screamed during the hearing.
A federal grand jury indicted Bigo on eight charges:
- Obstruction of an official proceeding
- Aiding and abetting
- Entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds with a deadly or dangerous weapon
- Disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds with a deadly or dangerous weapon
- Entering and remaining in certain rooms in the Capitol building
- Disorderly conduct in a Capitol building
- Parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building
- Theft of government property
