Multiple people have been shot, including a Knoxville police officer, at Austin-East Magnet High School on Monday afternoon, the Knoxville Police Department posted on its Twitter account.
Two sources with direct knowledge of the situation who are not authorized to speak about it also told Knox News the shooting had occurred. One source said the situation is no longer “active” and that one person has been detained. That same source said the police officer who was shot is the Austin-East school resource officer.
Police and emergency workers flooded the neighborhood around 3 p.m., and have blocked off access to the school and parts of the neighborhood.
The school has been locked down, according to Knox County Schools spokeswoman Carly Harrington. Knox County Schools Superintendent Bob Thomas tweeted the school has been secured.
The governor, Bill Lee signed a bill last week for permitless carry. Oh yeah, and he asks for prayers.
More prayers, this time from Senator Marsha Blackburn.
