The Alarming Texts From Sean Hannity

In a letter to Fox News host Sean Hannity, the January 6 Select Committee revealed several texts concerning the efforts of Donald Trump to overturn the 2020 election.

Those text messages were sent to Mark Meadows, other White House staff, and Trump’s legal team between December 31, 2020, and January 20, 2021.

On December 31, 2020:

  • “We can’t lose the entire WH counsels office,” Hannity told Meadows. “I do NOT see January 6 happening the way he is being told. After the 6 th. [sic] He should announce will lead the nationwide effort to reform voting integrity. Go to Fl and watch Joe mess up daily. Stay engaged. When he speaks people will listen.”

On the evening of January 5, 2021:

  • “very worried about the next 48 hours”
  • “Pence pressure. WH counsel will leave.”

On January 6, 2021:

  • Hannity and other Fox hosts and Trump confidants urged Trump to make a statement to the rioters to ask them to leave the Capitol.
  • Hannity texted to Meadows regarding media coverage about members of the cabinet attempting to remove Trump from office under the 25th Amendment.

On January 10, 2021:

  • Hannity had spoken to Trump that day and urged him not to “mention the election,” in a text to Mark Meadows and Jim Jordan.

Hannity had more extensive contacts with Trump and his inner circle before and after the attack than previously known, and the committee wants “factual information directly relevant to the events of January 6th and the attack on the institutions of our democracy.”
