Here are a few of the newer TV shows and movies; I’m starting a couple of these but also watching my oldies as well– movies I’ve seen a thousand times — they’re comfort food. The new ones are. . . . .we’ll see…….
Night Sky: A couple have discovered a chamber buried in their back garden that leads to a strange, deserted planet. They keep it a secret until one day when an enigmatic young man enters their lives and shows them that the mystifying chamber is much more than they could ever have imagined. (Amazon Prime)
The Essex Serpent: Set in Victorian England, a widow moves to Essex to investigate reports of a mythical serpent. There she forms a surprising bond of science and skepticism with the local pastor. (Apple TV)
Conversations with Friends: Two best friends who perform spoken word poetry together in Dublin become involved with an attractive older couple. (BBC 3)
Tokyo Vice: A journalist reporting on the Tokyo Metropolitan Police descends into the neon-soaked underbelly of Tokyo in the late ’90s, where nothing and no one is truly what or who they seem. (Starz)
The Staircase: True crime drama exploring the life of Michael Peterson, his sprawling North Carolina family, and the suspicious death of his wife, Kathleen Peterson. (Sky NOW)
A few more: The new season of Stranger Things; a new season of The Wilds; a new iteration of Bosch, and he’s no longer on the force; and two exciting science fiction series, Obi-Wan Kenobi after Anakin has gone to the dark side; and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (prequel, the Captain Pike days).
And what about movies? I’m hearing a lot about “Everything everywhere all at once“, a comedy, out now:
What starts with an exhausted woman having trouble finishing her taxes, turns into a hilarious, big-hearted sci-fi adventure story. When a rupture in reality endangers the world, our unlikely hero must do all she can to save it.
Top Gun: Maverick: Long-serving aviator Pete “Maverick” Mitchell is keeping himself airborne, avoiding higher ranks that would bring him back down to ground duty. While training graduates for a special assignment, Pete must come to confront his past head-on, which leads to one of his most dangerous missions yet..
A few more: The Northman is on Amazon now but costs $19.99 to rent because it’s a new release. I do love Alexander Skarsgard, but not $20 bucks worth….. MIssion Impossible 7 (geez) and at least a couple of bright spots, John Wick 4 and another Thor. . . . I’d like to hear about some interesting indies too —
What are you watching, TV, movies, or planning to watch? This list is just a smattering– There are more in the articles linked above. I wonder what I need to see that I don’t know about?
