Goooood evening, News Viewers and welcome to the weekend.
Has anyone looked at the calendar? This year has flown by. It will be September next week with fall and the holidays just around the corner. I’ve started to plan my fall garden, which I won’t put in my raised beds or the ground until October because they’ll fry. Lettuce, broccoli, broccolini, peas, and spinach do not like the heat and we don’t start really cooling down until mid-October.
I did pull up my amaryllis bulbs and will force them into dormancy probably next week. I’m just waiting for the rest of the foliage to die back. I like spring planting more because there is way much more to choose from but fall planting is fun. I just made a large urn container filled with a bunch of fall colored flowers and foliage that most will winter over well. The fillers were just some colorful annuals (purple, orange, gold…Halloween!) and…well, replaceable with more of a winter theme after Thanksgiving.
The burnt orange/rust Echinacea plant that I put in the urn can go join a few friends in the ground afterwards. I have just the perfect place for him since a tea rose didn’t make it. My neighbor’s cat killed it and I almost replaced it with some cacti that I have in a pot in my backyard because that would definitely keep his ass from using that spot as his personal litter box. I had to excavate the entire area, refill it with fresh soil, and I placed a bunch of rocks around the surviving plants so, he has no fresh dirt to ruin! I also had a talk with him the other day and told him that I will squirt his ass with my new hose if I catch him digging again. Like he’ll listen…felines!
So, what’s going on in your world?
Please feel free to talk about pretty much anything that’s on your mind. Pour yourself your favorite beverage, grab a snack or two, and enjoy each other’s company. Most of all, stay safe!
Enjoy the rest of the weekend.
