YOUNGSTOW — The Youngstow girl, 11, found to have a loaded gun while riding a school bus from St. Joseph the Provider School on the North Side, said she brought her mother’s gun with her to school because she was “tired of being picked on all the time.”
The girl was on a city school bus that was taking students home. A Youngstown police report states that when officers arrived at the bus, the driver was holding the handgun and the girl was still on the bus. The driver said another student approached him and said the girl had a gun in her bag.
The driver said he asked the girl about it, and she admitted it was in her bag. He took possession of it but did not “manipulate it in any way.”
◾️The pistol was a “G43, GLOCK single stack, 9 mm”.
◾️She was taken to Mahoning County Juvenile Justice Center.
◾️The girl attended St. Joseph which is attached to St. Anthony Catholic Church.
UPDATE:
During her first hearing (today), she pleaded not guilty to four felony charges and a mental health assessment was ordered for her. Her next hearing will be at 2 p.m. Monday. She is charged with two counts of illegal conveyance or possession of a deadly weapon in a school safety zone and single counts of carrying a concealed weapon and improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle.
