The sheriff’s office in Fulton County released a statement today that said Donald Trump and his 18 indicted allies will be booked at the county jail.
“At this point, based on guidance received from the District Attorney’s office and presiding judge, it is expected that all 19 defendants named in the indictment will be booked at the Rice Street Jail,” Fulton County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Natalie Ammons said in a statement.
District Attorney Fani Willis said that Trump and his cohorts have until August 25 at noon to turn themselves in.
Earlier this week before the indictments were announced, Fulton Sheriff Pat Labat said that the 19 defendants would be treated like any other detainee.
“It doesn’t matter your status. We have a mugshot ready for you,” Labat told reporters.
The sheriff’s office also said it is creating a designated media space in the jail’s parking lot to accommodate the local and national networks sure to descend on the facility.
The overcrowded county jail has been plagued with issues and is currently being investigated in a civil rights matter by the Justice Department.
Fulton County recently paid out a $4 million settlement in the death of a detainee who died in a mental health cell. According to the man’s family, he had been visibly deteriorating for some time but was ignored, and died covered in lice and bedbugs.
