Minutes after Rudy Giuliani left a courthouse in Georgia on Monday, he stepped to a microphone and defiantly reiterated the lies about two Georgia election workers that brought him to U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell’s courtroom.
Giuliani has already been found liable for lying about election workers Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss when he accused them of manipulating ballots in the 2020 election. The court proceedings this week will determine how much Giuliani will pay for his defamation.
When the trial reconvened on Tuesday morning, an incredulous Howell said the comments “could support another defamation claim.”
Howell said she hadn’t seen evidence that Giuliani was having issues paying attention or absorbing the proceedings that were unfolding in his damages trial. She noted he seemed responsive to questions and alert throughout the day Monday. But she did worry about whether he would be able to follow the court’s instructions, particularly when he testifies.
Giuliani’s lawyer explained that he had more control over his client’s behavior inside the courtroom, but repeatedly emphasized he has no control over what Giuliani does outside of the courtroom.
