Donald Trump has been ordered by the jury to pay E. Jean Carroll $18.3 million for his lies about her while president and for the statements he made about her after the verdict in their last trial. Trump was previously ordered to pay Carroll $5 million in his last defamation trial. The jury awarded $18.3 million in compensatory damages and $65 million in punitive damages.
Attorneys for Carroll showed the jury how Trump simply will not stop attacking Carroll. They played for the jury statements he made in interviews and rallies that he made about her even while the trial was going on. They also showed the jury recent posts he made on Truth Social about Carroll. They argued to the jury these brazen acts proved that only a very significant punitive damage award will stop him, or at least make him think twice.
