In today’s Head-to-Head take on the MAGAverse Media vs. Reality, we’ll take a look at the nutjobs still trying to blame Nancy Pelosi for the security failures during the Capitol insurrection on January 6, 2021.
Previously unaired video footage of Congressional leaders Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer was recently released, showing their frustration and anger at the lack of response from National Guard troops during the evacuation and fallout of the infamous invasion of MAGAts at the Capitol.
Pelosi, Schumer, and Mitch McConnell were trying to coordinate a military response, but the videos show their confusion about their request for a National Guard response as they evacuated.
MAGA responded with their twisted version of what those videos revealed.
Here’s Georgia Rep. Barry Loudermilk’s perversion of the truth.

- MAGAts lack the common sense to connect the reality that Pelosi did not have the power to summon the National Guard, but her very words in the video portray a regret that she did not have the authority.
“You’re going to ask me—in the middle of the thing when they’ve already breached the inaugural stuff—‘Should we call … the National Guard?’” Pelosi asked Terri McCullough, her chief of staff, as they rode in an SUV while being evacuated from the Capitol to Fort McNair. “Why weren’t the National Guard there to begin with?”
She adds … leaders have a “responsibility” and “we didn’t have any accountability for what was going on there and we should have.”
“What is missing here in terms of anticipation?” Pelosi asked, referring to the security planning. “They thought these people would act civilized? They thought these people gave a damn?”
- Chuck Schumer is seen demanding answers, fuming that DC Police had been denied by the DoD their request for National Guard.
“I’d like to know a good fucking reason why it’s been denied,” Schumer growls into a flip phone. “We need them fast. We’ve all had to—I’ve never seen anything like this. We’re like a third-world country here. We had to run and evacuate the Capitol.”
“They have not denied it,” Schumer said to Pelosi after getting off the phone. “I spoke to the secretary of the Army. He’s given the full OK to get the National Guard, he says it was not denied. I’m gunna call up the effin’ secretary of DoD.”
Republicans have spent the last three years attempting to portray Pelosi as singularly responsible for the security breakdown, despite shared responsibility among congressional leaders and evidence that they relied on the assessments of police and security officials. The new footage does not bolster GOP claims of Pelosi being at fault. Instead, it largely aligns with and adds depth to previous snippets of Alexandra Pelosi’s footage released by the Jan. 6 select committee and in an HBO documentary that was released in 2022.
