On the same day that inflation fell below the three-percent mark for the first time since 2021, JD Vance labeled inflation a “disaster” during a campaign stop in Byron Center, Michigan, and said he sees Michigan, which currently has all state offices filled with Democrats, as part of the “red wall” that will send Donald Trump back to the White House.
Michigan’s governor, secretary of state, attorney general, and both U.S. senators are Democrats. The state legislature is also currently controlled by Democrats. In 2020, Biden defeated Trump by 3 percentage points, 51%-48%.
Vance spoke at a non-union trucking company, Cordes, Inc., and criticized United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain by saying Fain “sounds like a communist” when he’s campaigning with Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris.
Cordes, Inc., was fined $1,800 earlier this year as a result of a serious violation of a Michigan statute that protects employees from hazards that cause or are likely to cause death or serious harm.
