Democratic strategist James Carville has listed three “imperatives” that VP Kamala Harris can do to boost her chances of winning in November.
“From Labor Day to Election Day, to clinch victory and drive a nail into Mr. Trump’s political career, there are three imperatives Ms. Harris must drive at successfully to become the certified fresh candidate at the ballot box in November,” the former President Clinton adviser said.
Help Trump “hurt himself” in the debate.
In the September 10 ABC News debate, Carville says she should let Trump be Trump, and let him talk over her.
“Not just let him but goad him into spouting insane conspiracy theories about the previous election. She should use her sense of humor at key moments to get under his skin and show he’s not getting to her,” Carville says, adding she should welcome personal attacks to show Trump is using the same old playbook.

Next month’s debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump won’t have an audience, live microphones when candidates aren’t speaking, or written notes, according to rules that ABC News, the host network, shared this week with both campaigns.
Harris should distance herself from Biden policies.
Carville suggests she should brand herself as the “certified fresh candidate,” showing herself different “on a set of policy priorities she believes would define her presidency.” Carville did not offer any specific examples.
Harris should address her policy shifts since 2019.
Harris should explain that she has grown as a candidate since running for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination.
“It’s vital that she give the same answer every time to these attacks. The retort can be simple: I learned from my time governing in the White House. These are my positions. Take it or leave it,” Carville wrote.
