Following the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk this week, educators across the country have found themselves facing swift termination or potential discipline after allegedly sharing opinions on social media about the killing.
At least a dozen faculty and staff, from school board officials to classroom teachers, have been met with fallout over insensitive posts about Kirk’s death. In at least two instances, universities fired staff members entirely for posts deemed inappropriate.
Many other educators have been suspended or are under investigation, and the number is likely to grow as conservative online influencers share screenshots.
Professor on leave after allegedly calling Charlie Kirk a ‘hate-spreading Nazi’ following his death
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA/Gray News) – A University of South Dakota professor is under investigation after a social media post following the killing of Charlie Kirk.
The professor has been placed on leave and is reportedly on track to be fired, while drawing the ire of the state’s governor and others.
In the now-deleted post, professor Michael Hook allegedly wrote, in part:
“I have no thoughts or prayers for this hate-spreading Nazi, a shrug maybe.” Earlier in the post, in read, “I’m sorry for his family that he was a hate-spreading Nazi and got killed. I’m sure they deserved better. Maybe good people can now enter their lives.”

Charlie Kirk Suspect’s Grandma Says Family Is All MAGA
Tyler Robinson, 22, the man arrested in connection with the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, comes from a MAGA family, his grandmother has revealed.
Although MAGA figureheads have been quick to point fingers at the left for Kirk’s death, Tyler’s grandmother, Debbie Robinson, 69, insisted that they come from a family of Trump supporters.
She spoke with the Daily Mail on Friday after news of Robinson’s arrest broke. “My son, his dad, is a Republican for Trump,” Debbie told the outlet. “Most of my family members are Republican. I don’t know any single one who’s a Democrat.”
