Rubio Admits Peace Plan Was Russian Document, But Tries Walking the Statement Back

A group of U.S. Senators, critical of a 28-point peace proposal presented to Ukraine, received word from Secretary of State Marco Rubio that the plan was not a U.S. document, but a Russian document that was leaked to the press. Rubio reiterated that the plan Trump is pushing Zelensky to accept is a “wish list” of the Russians, and not the actual proposal supporting Washington’s positions.

Among the bipartisan group of Senators confirming the phone call with Rubio were Mike Rounds (R-SD), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), and Angus King (I-Maine). They were gathered for a conference in Canada.

Soon after, a State Department spokesperson called the lawmakers’ account “blatantly false.”

Rubio then backtracked his claims to the Senators, claiming that the plan came from the U.S. and was “based on input” from both Ukraine and Russia.

And yet Rounds said he was assured that the plan was presented to Steve Witkoff, who acts as Trump’s overseas diplomatic envoy, by “someone… representing Russia”. The senator continued: “It is not our recommendation. It is not our peace plan.”

VP JD Vance also chirped in.

Now, if you’re having trouble following these bumbling Russian stooges posing as representatives of the U.S., here’s a solid recap:
