New York GOP Rep. Elise Stefanik is accusing Speaker Johnson of lying, and promising to take aim at the National Defense Authorization Act if it doesn’t incorporate a provision she has championed — one that would require the FBI to notify Congress when it opens investigations into candidates running for federal office.
Stefanik, a New York gubernatorial candidate running against Kathy Hochul, claims that Johnson is siding with Democrats and Jamie Raskin against her proposal that led to investigations of the “Russia Russia Russia hoax” and the Deep State via James Comey and Jack Smith.
Johnson to Stefanik: Girl, just call me…
- Stefanik’s vocal opposition is only one more headache for Johnson, who can only lose two Republican votes on any party-line measure.
- Morale is low in the House GOP as more members are willing to buck party leadership, with increased infighting and GOP resignations.
- Johnson and Stefanik have worked together, even serving together on the first Trump impeachment defense. But when the White House pulled Stefanik’s nomination to be U.S. Ambassador to the UN, things began to change.
