Bill and Hillary Clinton have officially told the House Oversight Committee chairman James Comer to pound sand regarding subpoenas for their testimony in an “investigation” into convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
The Clintons were scheduled to appear for closed-door depositions on Tuesday and Wednesday, but instead issued a letter from their attorneys that claimed they have already provided all the information they have, and called the committee’s efforts nothing more than a political ploy to embarrass political rivals.
The letter also stated that the Congressional subpoenas issued to the Clintons are “not related to a valid legislative purpose,” the subpoenas are therefore “invalid and legally unenforceable.”
Kentucky Gomer Comer said they would move forward with a vote to hold Bill Clinton in contempt of Congress, with the assumption that Hillary would also face the same vote if she does not appear on the Hill on Wednesday when she is scheduled.
Comer told reporters they were just asking questions.
Trump’s DOJ has not hesitated in the past to go after its perceived political enemies. The administration has sought to cast Bill Clinton at the center of the Epstein files saga, despite there being no evidence of misconduct against him.
In the Biden era, both Steve Bannon and Peter Navarro were sentenced to jail for defying Congressional subpoenas regarding their activities surrounding January 6.
