Sen. Amy Klobuchar jumps into Minnesota governor’s race
The announcement from the Democratic senator comes after Gov. Tim Walz dropped his bid for a third term, at a pivotal and chaotic time for the blue-leaning state.
Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar said Thursday she will run for governor of Minnesota, after Tim Walz’s surprise announcement earlier this month that he was dropping his bid for a third term.
The move from Klobuchar, who is serving her fourth term as senator, further shakes up Democratic politics in a blue-leaning state that has emerged as the latest target of President Donald Trump’s attacks and immigration crackdown.
Another Looming Government Shutdown:
^^^Horrible Headline Alert-Seven Republicans Voted WITH all members of the Democratic Party.
Shutdown test vote fails 55-45
Fifty-five senators, including all Democrats and seven Republicans, voted against advancing the funding package.
Democrats’ concerns were uniformly about ICE and DHS, while the GOP no votes consisted of conservatives angry about what they perceived to be wasteful spending in the half-dozen appropriations bills.
All 47 Democratic senators voted against advancing the package, along with seven Republican senators. Thune also voted no so that he could bring the measure back up for consideration in the future.
Seven Republican senators on Thursday voted against advancing a six-bill funding package to keep the government open past Friday, citing concerns about the ballooning federal deficit and what they saw as the failure of the so-called appropriations minibus to significantly cut spending
Sens. Ted Budd (R-N.C.), Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), Mike Lee (R-Utah), Ashley Moody (R-Fla.), Rand Paul (R-Ky.), Rick Scott (R-Fla.) and Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) voted against a motion to advance the bill, even though it had the strong support of Senate GOP leaders.
