The MAGA U.S. Attorney for D.C. Jeannine “BoxWine” Pirro threatened jail time for law-abiding gun owners who travel to Washington, D.C., with their firearms, even if they are licensed elsewhere.
Pirro’s comments echo those of Donald Trump’s messaging following the death of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, who was lawfully carrying a firearm when he was killed by federal agents.
Pirro also seems to be talking out both sides of her mouth when local law in the nation’s capital requires registration of firearms and limits certain semiautomatic rifles, while the Trump administration has simultaneously challenged D.C.’s gun laws as too restrictive.
Backlash is coming from MAGA, gun owners advocates, and other GOP voices.
- The National Association of Gun Rights called BoxWine’s comments “unacceptable and intolerable.”
- MAGA Rep. Greg Steube of Florida said, “I have a license in Florida and DC to carry. And I will continue to carry to protect myself and others. Come and Take it!”
- “Non-residents can obtain a permit in DC — don’t ask me how I know,” Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie said.
