Bessent Goes Combative with Democrats in Financial Oversight Hearing

At a House Financial Services Oversight Committee hearing on Wednesday, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent smirked his way through a grilling by Democrats on the Committee, some who flatly called him out for being a Trump stooge, while another, Rep. Maxine Waters, asked if the chairman of the committee could shut him up.

Democrats pressed Bessent on inflation, tariffs, the housing crisis, cryptocurrency, and his failure to question Trump’s pay to play event with UAE buying into the family business.

N.Y. Rep. Gregory Meeks sought an answer on issue of conflicts of interest with World Liberty Financial, and Bessent filibustered until Meeks asked Bessent to stop being the president’s flunky, and implored him to not be a cover-up for the mob.

instead of answering questions from Democratic House members, Bessent is consulting with notes on a piece of paper his team has prepared that contains political hits on them
