Pentagon Confirms It Met With Vatican—But Denies Reports Of A Bitter Clash—Amid The Pope’s Mounting Criticism
An unnamed Pentagon spokesperson confirmed the meeting occurred in a statement to Religion News Service, but called the Free Press report “highly exaggerated and distorted,” saying the Department of Defense has “nothing but the highest regard and welcome continued dialogue with the Holy See,” though it did not elaborate on details of the talks.
