Deal Reportedly ‘Within Reach’ to End Government Shutdown
A deal is reportedly “within reach” to end the 40-day long government shutdown — according to a new report from Axios.
The Axios report — citing sources from both parties — said that Senate Democrats are prepared to advance a package of bills to bring an end to the standoff. The procedural motion which would set up votes on these bills is expected to be supported by at least 10 Senate Democrats, per Axios — which adds that the deal would include a vote on extending Obamacare tax credits in December.
The ramifications of the shutdown have begun to ramp up in recent days. The disruption to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) has impacted 42 million Americans who receive SNAP benefits. And airport delays have begun to pile up — as there is a shortage of air traffic controllers due to the fact they have not been paid.

Claims of ‘royalties’ paid to former president Obama stem from satire
Amid a massive push by the Trump administration to root out improper and wasteful government spending, social media claims circulated that Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) cut payments to Barack Obama for “royalties associated with Obamacare.” However, no trademark exists surrounding the former president’s signature health care law, and the claims originated with a satirical website.
“DOGE stopped an annual payment to Barack Obama for $2.6 million for ‘royalties associated with Obamacare.’ He’s been collecting since 2010 for a total of $39 million taxpayer dollars,” reads text over an image, posted to Facebook on February 27, 2025 and shared more than 25,000 times.
Similar posts, accusing the former president of profiting from a trademark of “Obamacare,” the popular name for the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, enacted in 2010, also spread on X, TikTok and Instagram.

Trump admin tells states to ‘immediately undo’ steps to fund November SNAP benefits
The Trump administration late Saturday directed states that they must “immediately undo” any actions they have made to provide benefits to low-income families via the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
“To the extent States sent full SNAP payment files for November 2025, this was unauthorized. Accordingly, States must immediately undo any steps taken to issue full SNAP benefits for November 2025,” the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in a release. “Please advise the appropriate FNS Regional Office representative of steps taken to correct any actions taken that do not comply with this memorandum.”
The directive follows an administrative stay granted by the U.S. Supreme Court late Friday temporarily blocking a lower court order that ordered the Trump administration to pay SNAP benefits in full for November.
