Taco Trump Dumps Tariffs on Coffee, Beef, and Other Items

On Friday, Taco Trump signed an executive order that exempted key grocery items from tariffs, including those on coffee, beef, tomatoes, bananas, cocoa, and fruits including oranges, pineapples, coconuts, and avocados.

A baseline tariff rate of 10 percent will remain in place on goods from Argentina, El Salvador and Guatemala, and a 15 percent tariff rate will remain in place on Ecuador. However, the agreements will allow for tariffs to be reduced or dropped on certain goods, such as bananas, coffee and cocoa.

The action was retroactive to Thursday at midnight, and comes at a time when Trump is facing blowback on high prices at grocery stores TRUMPFLATION, while the administration has consistently insisted that tariffs did not raise prices on American consumers.

Brazil, the top supplier of coffee to the US, has faced tariffs of 50% since August. Consumers paid nearly 20% more for coffee in September compared to the prior year, according to Consumer Price Index data.
