Donald Trump is again reminding Ukraine’s President Zelensky that he doesn’t have any cards, but has until Thanksgiving to fold them.
A 28-point plan secretly crafted in Miami reads like it was written at the Kremlin, and calls on Kyiv to cede territory, limit the size of its military and promise not to join NATO in exchange for an end to the war.
It calls for a halt to fighting, global funding for reconstruction and a board overseeing the commitments led by the Trump administration.
Special envoy Steve Witkoff and Special Son-in-Law Jared Kushner met with Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev at the end of October. Dmitriev is officially sanctioned, but was offered a waiver to enter the U.S.
Many senior officials inside the State Department and on the National Security Council were not briefed. It is unclear whether even Secretary of State Marco Rubio was skirted on the deal.
- The U.S. would recognize as Russian territory all of the lands that Moscow has declared for itself in Donetsk and Luhansk.
- No NATO bases could be established inside of Uraine to prevent further cessation of Russian aggression and land grabs.
- The Ukrainian military would be cut by 25%, limited to 600,000 troops, and would be barred from possessing long-range missiles.
- In return, Russia’s sanctions would be lifted and “reintegrated” into the global economy.
