Indiana Will Vote on Redistricting Following White House Pressure

Indiana lawmakers reversed course on Tuesday agreeing to vote on a new congressional map following a high pressure campaign from the White House.

Less than two weeks ago the Indiana Senate said of redistricting “there are not enough votes to move that idea forward.” But on Tuesday it was announced they would meet on December 8 to make a final decision that week on any new map sent from the lower House chamber.

The House currently has not yet proposed a map, nor is there any guarantee the Senate would have enough votes for redistricting.

Rodric Bray, the president pro tem of the Senate, said that the issue has created a lot of attention and caused a lot of strife in the state, with both opponents and supporters of redistricting saying they have received threats of violence and have been targets of swatting.

Trump himself had called out some Republicans by name and threatened primary challenges against resistors. Bray himself was labeled a “RINO” by Trump. The Republican Speaker of the Indiana House had previously voiced his support for redistricting kissing the ring.
