DOJ won’t say what it advised Noem amid contempt inquiry over El Salvador deportations
Department of Justice officials, citing privilege, did not disclose details on the legal advice given to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem about the decision to continue the deportation of more than 100 Venezuelans to El Salvador in March.
The declarations filed in court Friday are a response to a contempt inquiry initiated by U.S. District Court Judge James Boasberg, who is determining whether Noem or anyone else should be referred for potential contempt prosecution.
The court filings Friday were submitted after DOJ lawyers said in a filing last week that Noem directed the deportation flights to continue despite Boasberg’s order to return the planes to the U.S. as he heard a legal challenge to the administration’s use of the Alien Enemies Act (AEA) to deport the Venezuelans, whom the Trump administration accused of being gang members.

Minneapolis police chief warns officers: Stop unlawful force by ICE or lose your job
Chief Brian O’Hara says he’ll fire city police officers if they don’t intervene when immigration agents use unlawful force.
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara issued a stern warning to his officers on Thursday: Intervene when you see Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents using unlawful force or lose your job.
“If unlawful force is being used by any law enforcement officer against any person in this city and one of our officers is there, absolutely, I expect them to intervene, or they’ll be fired,” O’Hara said when asked how his officers should respond to excessive force by ICE agents.
O’Hara noted that cases of “excessive” force that were “readily apparent” would merit officer intervention. A sergeant from O’Hara’s department later clarified that while Minneapolis Police Department officers may physically intervene in the case of unlawful force, they would stop short of arresting ICE agents.

Trump administration alters national parks’ free-entry days, cutting MLK Day and Juneteenth
The change is part of a broader shift in the National Park Service’s free-entry day schedule, which includes adding President Donald Trump’s birthday.
The Trump administration has changed which days Americans can visit national parks for free next year, removing Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Juneteenth and adding President Donald Trump’s birthday, which falls on Flag Day.
The Department of the Interior made the changes last month, designating those 2026 dates “resident-only patriotic fee-free days.” Other changes include adding the Fourth of July weekend and President Theodore Roosevelt’s birthday to the list, while removing the anniversary of the Great American Outdoors Act in August and National Public Lands Day in September.
In a press release announcing new prices for annual passes to the nation’s national parks for nonresidents, the Interior Department — led by Interior Secretary Doug Burgum — also released a list of fee-free dates for next year.

Trump watches: How much they cost. What are they made of?
Trump watches remain a hot commodity as the novelty time pieces bearing the president’s likeness and signature advertise on the conservative news channel NewsMax, with watches costing potentially thousands of dollars for fans of the current administration.
“Hello everyone. It’s President Donald J. Trump and it’s Trump time,” the president is seen saying in the commercial advertising a $499 watch from the “Fight, Fight, Fight” collection. “Check out this red beauty. It’s one of my new watches. Wear it proudly on your wrist, and everyone will know exactly what it’s for, who it’s for, who it represents. It’s really gonna be something special. It’s for your favorite president,” he continues.
