Congress is Reacting to Their First Glimpses of the Epstein Files

While Ghislaine Maxwell is exercising her Fifth Amendment rights, Congress members are now starting to review unredacted files of the Epstein investigation released by the Department of (in)Justice.

And wow! Check out some of their reactions below.

Thomas Massie noted that some of the files had redactions before they were sent to the DOJ, implicating the FBI.

Jamie Raskin:

One redacted document Raskin said he saw in full was an email Epstein had sent to his associate Ghislaine Maxwell, which contained an account from his lawyers of a conversation with attorneys representing Trump that occurred around 2009.

Trump was quoted in it as saying that while Epstein was never a member of his Mar-a-Lago club, he had been a guest and was never asked to leave, which would contradict statements from the president that he had at one point barred him from his Florida property.

Rep. Becca Balint (Vermont) found that Trump did not kick Epstein out of Mar-a-Lago as he has stated. Says there are a bunch of “sick fucks.”

Republican Senator Cynthia Lummis (Wyoming) now sees what the big deal was about opening the files, saying, “I’ve sort of intentionally deferred to others to find out about it. But 9-year-old victims … wow.”

Senator Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) is criticizing people like Howard Lutnick for lying about their interactions with the convicted pedophile Epstein.

“Do I have concerns about it? Yeah, yeah,” Murkowski told NBC News when she was asked about people who appear to have withheld information about their contacts with Epstein. “Particularly, if they’re people that have said [they] didn’t know the man, never went to that place, you know? And now, now we’re seeing evidence otherwise.

“It just causes me to question the credibility and the integrity of the individual. They’ve lied. Maybe, just maybe they just thought it would never be revealed. Maybe they would [have] thought that because of my position, because of my stature, I would be somehow protected.” — NBC

Republicans Anna Paulina Luna and Lauren Boebert called out those whose names were redacted as if they were victims.

“I hope the whole country is focusing on the absolute gravity of the crisis that we’re in.” — Rep. Jamie Raskin.
