The Washington Post is reporting that Pro-Trump activists who say they are in coordination with the White House are circulating a 17-page draft executive order claiming that China interfered in the 2020 election, and using it as a basis to declare a national emergency that would unlock extraordinary presidential power over voting.
Allegations of Chinese interference in the 2020 election by Trump and top administration officials were disproven in 2021 by the U.S. intelligence community, which assessed that China “considered but did not deploy influence efforts intended to change the outcome of the US Presidential election.”
The two Trumpkin activists, Peter Ticktin and Jerome Corsi, have been brainstorming for a year and figure that Trump can ban mail-in voting and mandate voter ID in November’s mid-term elections as “steps the states will be required to take in order to make sure the elections are secure.”
- “Under the Constitution, it’s the legislatures and states that really control how a state conducts its elections, and the president doesn’t have any power to do that,” Ticktin states.
- “If there was a provable foreign intrusion, that would be a national security emergency and the order could be issued under his powers as commander in chief,” Corsi added.
American Libertarian think tank Cato Institute released the following statement:
“Just as there was no emergency justifying the unilateral imposition of worldwide tariffs, there is no election emergency that permits the President to ignore Article 1, Section IV of the Constitution, which assigns election lawmaking authority to the states and Congress. The 2024 election was lawful, accurate, secure, and accessible. There is no reason to think the same will not be true this coming November.”
