Tony Gonzalez Drops Out of Reelection Bid

Rep. Tony Gonzalez (MAGAt/Texas) dropped out of his primary runoff for reelection on Thursday, after Mike Johnson and other MAGAts suggested he do so after it was revealed he had an extramarital affair with an aide who committed suicide.

“After deep reflection and with the support of my loving family, I have decided not to seek re-election while serving out the rest of this Congress with the same commitment I’ve always had to my district,” Gonzaelz said.

Gonzales completing his term keeps a 218-214 majority in the House, meaning they can only afford to lose one Republican on any given party-line vote with full attendance.

Gonzalez finished second behind his primary challenger, Brandon Herrera, in the Texas 23rd Congressional District race.

Herrera, a gun rights activist and YouTuber seen to the right of Gonzalez, will become the MAGA candidate in the bigly border district.
