From his Miami Doral resort on Monday, Trump told House Republicans that the SAVE America Act will guarantee Republicans winning the midterms and more.
“It will guarantee the midterms. If you don’t get it, big trouble,” Trump said at the House GOP’s annual issues conference in Florida.
Trump also asked House Republicans to pass a new version of the bill that would expand the GOP wish list, including “no mail-in-ballots except for illness, disability, military or travel” and a ban on transgender athletes in women’s sports.
GOP leaders are standing their ground against Trump’s pressure to enact new rules to pass the SAVE Act.
John Thune on Monday dismissed the idea again of using the talking filibuster, warning of the chaos it would cause on the Senate floor.
“What people don’t realize, I think, is that’s unlimited debate but it’s also unlimited amendments,” he said. “You have to have unified support not only in support of the ultimate goal, which is the SAVE America Act, but on the process to be able to defeat amendments that would undo the legislation in the first place.”
