As a resident of Florida, Trump has a newly elected statehouse representative in the district that contains Mar-a-Lago, Democrat Emily Gregory, winning a special election against her Trump-endorsed Republican opponent.
District 87, along the Palm Beach County coast, had been held by Republican State Rep Mike Caruso, who won the district in 2024 by 19 points. Caruso resigned after being appointed county clerk by Ron DeSantis, leaving the office open since August.
Emily Gregory, 40, a first-time candidate with a public health background, based her campaign on the 2026 buzzword “affordability.”
Her opponent, Jon Maples, 43, billed himself as an “America First Patriot,” and enjoyed the complete and total endorsement of the President.
Records show that Trump voted by mail in the special election, despite calling it “mail-in cheating.”
Trump chose to mail his ballot even though he has recently been in Palm Beach where early in-person voting was available until Sunday evening.
