House GOP lawmakers are now plotting to fund “Operation Epic Fury” with cuts to federal healthcare spending.
With a budget bill proposal for the Iran war containing as much as $200 billion, Steve Scalise is telling Axios that they will be looking at fraud, waste, and abuse, as well as cutting the amount of healthcare subsidies for lower income Americans.
House Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington of Texas is pushing a plan that would claw back more than $30 billion by cutting the assistance people receive to pay healthcare premiums. Arrington says he wants a law passed in “60 to 90 days.”
The Congressional Budget Office has estimated the move would leave 300,000 more Americans without health insurance.
Scalise admits many moderate Republicans would balk at the proposal, as well as Democrats.
