House representative and candidate for California governor announced Sunday evening he will suspend his campaign after a series of sexual misconduct allegations against the Democratic lawmaker.

Swalwell’s announcement came a day after the the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office in New York launched an investigation into a sexual assault allegation against him.

A spokesperson for the district attorney’s office urged “survivors and anyone with knowledge of these allegations to contact our Special Victims Division at 212-335-9373. Our specially trained prosecutors, investigators, and counselors are well-equipped to help you in a trauma-informed, survivor-centered manner.”

In a statement on Sunday, more than 50 former Swalwell staff members urged him to resign from Congress and to quit the gubernatorial contest.

“No one is above the law,” the statement said, according to The New York Times. “Not a congressman. Not a candidate for governor. No one.”
