Trump’s disapproval rating hits a record high in new poll
USA Today:
President Donald Trump’s disapproval rating surged to a record 62% in a new Washington Post‑ABC News‑Ipsos poll, while his overall approval slipped to 37% amid low marks on the Iran war, inflation and the cost of living.
Key points:
The Washington Post‑ABC News‑Ipsos poll surveyed 2,560 U.S. adults from April 24‑28 and gave Trump a 62% disapproval rating, the highest in that poll’s history.
Trump’s overall approval in the same poll was 37%, down two points from the February survey.
A Reuters/Ipsos poll released on April 28 recorded Trump’s approval at 34%, a record low for that poll series.
The New York Times’ daily average on May 3 showed Trump with 39% approval and 58% disapproval.
66% of respondents disapproved of Trump’s handling of the Iran war, while 33% approved.
Lowest presidential approval rating
The record for the lowest individual approval rating in a single poll belongs to Harry S. Truman, who hit 22% in February 1952.

- Iran launched its first missile and drone attack on the United Arab Emirates since a ceasefire with the U.S. took effect on April 8, and it fired two drones at a ship in the Strait of Hormuz, UAE authorities said Monday.
- The U.S. military said two commercial vessels safely transited the key waterway Monday under the Project Freedom initiative announced by President Trump. Iran fired missiles at ships being protected during the operation, and the commander of Central Command says U.S. forces destroyed six Iranian small boats for trying “to interfere.”
- The Iranian regime says it received a U.S. response to its latest 14-point peace proposal, which it says is aimed at ending the war, not extending the current ceasefire. Mr. Trump said over the weekend that he’d likely reject the Iranian proposal, as “they have not paid a big enough price.”

DeSantis signs gerrymandered Florida map into law
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) has signed an aggressively gerrymandered electoral map into law, the final step in a bid to flip four more seats in Congress to Republicans.
Litigation challenging the map, which could hand the GOP a 24-4 advantage in the state’s congressional seats, is expected to be filed imminently.
“Signed, Sealed, and Delivered,” DeSantis wrote immediately after signing the gerrymander into law.
