MAGAt Scott Presler is blaming Senate Majority Leader John Thune for being locked out of a GOP barbecue in South Dakota on Thursday, an event sponsored by Thune at the South Dakota Republican Convention in Rapid City. DHS Napoleon Markwayne Mullin was a featured guest at the convention.
Presler has been pressing hard to save Trump’s SAVE Act, while Thune does not see a way forward for the voter suppression bill, one that would disenfranchise scores of voters who are eligible to vote.
The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act would enact new citizenship documentation and photo ID requirements to vote in federal elections. The act would cause undue burden to those who have changed their name due to marriage or other reasons.
MAGAts are whining that Thune denied entry to Presler over his support of the SAVE Act.
Presler showed off a press pass in a social media post, but Thune’s spokesperson said the event was closed to the press. Another local news outlet said they too were turned away at the event but had received permission by email to attend. They were told by staff they were “having problems with other people who registered as media but weren’t from what the state party considers legitimate outlets.”
At the convention, two resolutions were brought up and discussed regarding Thune and the SAVE Act:
- South Dakota Republicans would “urge” Thune and Republicans to continue trying to save the SAVE Act.
- South Dakota Republicans would move to rebuke and censure Thune until the SAVE Act was passed.
