- The consumer price index, an inflation barometer, rose 3.4% on an annual basis in August 2026, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
- That’s well above the Federal Reserve’s inflation target. Economists said pressure is mounting on the Fed to raise interest rates at its policy meeting next week.
- The Iran war has increased oil prices, in turn raising prices for gasoline, diesel, jet fuel and other fuels.
