At a cult rally in Texas on Tuesday, Trump suggested (again) putting Ted Cruz on the Supreme Court in the hypothetic scenario of a vacancy while he was still president.
“I shouldn’t tell this,” Trump said. “Should I tell the Supreme Court situation? Should I? Come on. So you know, I picked three Supreme Court justices, and it’s very hard to get them approved.”
Trump’s theory was that 100% of Democrats and Republican senators would vote for him in order to get him out of the US Senate.
One of Trump’s Greatest Hits
This isn’t the first time Trump has floated Cruz as his dream Supreme Court candidate, nor was it the first time that Cruz has been the butt of his jokes.
In July at a White House event promoting Trump Accounts, he also said a bipartisan agreement could get Ted out of Congress.
In April, Cruz confirmed in a Wall Street Journal interview that Trump has approached him “seriously” about filling a vacancy.
“In the first Trump term, the president spoke to me seriously about all three vacancies, and three times I said no, because I don’t want to be out of the arena of the political battle,” Cruz said.
