Speaker Mike Johnson on Friday was being pressed to defend Trump’s comments about “the Democrat Epstein hoax” when he let a whopper bombshell drop: “He was an FBI informant to try to take this stuff down,” Johnson said of Trump.
The “Democrat hoax” also includes Republicans and Trump voters who want to see the full Epstein files released.
“What Trump is referring to is the hoax that the Democrats are using to try to attack him,” Johnson Trumpsplained. “… He’s not saying that what Epstein did is a hoax. It’s a terrible, unspeakable evil; he believes that himself. When he first heard the rumor, he kicked him out of Mar-a-Lago,” Johnson said.
At the press conference on Wednesday with survivors, Bradley Edwards, an attorney for some of the women said that Trump did not believe it was a hoax back in 2009.
“I talked to President Trump back in 2009 and several times after that—he didn’t think it was a hoax then,” said Brad Edwards, the attorney representing some of the victims. “In fact, he helped me,” Edwards added, noting Trump “got on the phone. He told me things that were helping our investigation. Now our investigation wasn’t looking into him, but he was helping us then. He didn’t treat this as a hoax.” Edwards said he hoped Trump would return to his old campaign position and demand more transparency in this case. “This about-face that occurred, none of us understand it. In fact, I don’t understand how this is an issue that’s even up for debate.”
