Fact Check: The Liar in Chief’s SOTU Address

We survived the longest SOTU address on record; Trump droned on for 1 hour and 47 minute speech. He beat his own record for the longest annual address to Congress on record since at least 1964 — which he set last year.

Jobs:

“We have more jobs, more people working today than ever before in the history of our country,” Trump said.

Fact: Job gains under Trump in 2025 were far smaller than in any recent nonpandemic year. Revised numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics show that the nation gained 181,000 jobs in 2025, well below the 1.5 million to 2.5 million typical under both Trump during his first term and former President Joe Biden.

Economy and inflation:

“In 12 months, I secured commitments for more than $18 trillion pouring in from all over the globe.”

Per the White House’s own website:

Total U.S. and Foreign Investments: $9.7 Trillion

Gas Prices:

Trump claimed gas prices are “now below $2.30 a gallon in most states, and in some places, $1.99 a gallon.” But no state had an average gas price on Tuesday below $2.37 per gallon, according to AAA; only two states had an average below $2.50 per gallon.

Reality Check:

He was NOT there:

Trump: “It was July 4th of last year, when flood waters tore through a girl’s summer camp in Central Texas. One of the worse things I’ve ever seen. I was there.” Fact check: Trump was not there. He was throwing a party on the White House South Lawn while children were missing in Texas.
