TACO Trump Appears Ready to Settle the DHS Shutdown

GOP Senators say that Trump is reversing course on his blockade of ending the DHS shutdown after meeting with Katie Britt, Lindsey Graham, Bernie Moreno, and Steve Daines on Monday night.

Those senators opened Trump’s mind to a new party-line reconciliation bill that would fund most of DHS except for specific parts of ICE which is already funded through the Big Ugly Bill.

Republicans are looking at using reconciliation to pass more ICE funding as well as parts of the SAVE America Act, according to sources.

Republicans, like Susan Collins, were concerned that linking the two funding measures would “all but guarantee that the shutdown would continue indefinitely and would undermine the GOP’s efforts to blame the funding lapse on Democrats,” per Politico.

Democrats have repeatedly offered to fund DHS but with ICE reforms.

Senator John (Pitchfork) Kennedy spoke with Fox News on Tuesday, attempting to explain the GOP tactics.
