Trump Plans Joint Venture With Iran to Impose Tolls on Shipping Traffic Through Strait of Hormuz

Trump said Wednesday morning that he would consider joining the Iranian regime in managing traffic through the Strait of Hormuz that would include imposing tolls on ships passing through the waterway.

ABC reporter Jonathon Karl on Good Morning America said he spoke with Trump on Wednesday morning who called the scheme “a beautiful thing.”

Here’s the footage of the report:

There are no details about how any joint arrangement would function, but Trump told Karl that formal peace talks were expected to begin on Friday and suggested they would progress quickly.

On Tuesday night, Trump was bragging about a Golden Age for Iran.

Iran has allowed its own ships to pass through the strait, while friendly nations have been charged $1 million or more per vessel. U.S. ships have been banned. Normally around 130 ships pass through the strait every day.

At least one sticking point between Trump and Iran remains:

“There won’t be any enrichment,” he said, reiterating a long-standing point of contention in negotiations. Iran has repeatedly insisted it will not relinquish its right to enrichment.
