Judge Christopher Cooper has rejected an attempt from the Trump administration to stay an order to remove Donald J Trump’s name from the Kennedy Center.
The administration asked the judge to stay an order from May 29 that ordered the name to be removed while the administration has submitted a new appeal of that decision. Today was the deadline for the order to remove the name.
Cooper, in his May 29 ruling wrote, “Congress gave the Kennedy Center its name, and only Congress can change it.”
The D.C. Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals has yet to rule whether to stay Cooper’s order, yet scaffolding has been set up outside the center as crews are expected to begin the removal.
Judge Cooper’s denial of stay states there is no irreparable harm if the name comes down and is later overruled by appeal.
Perhaps the removal of Trump’s name will happen before an imminent deal with Iran?
The livestream below is poised to capture the glorious moment.
