Capital One says it closed Trump Organization accounts over money-laundering concerns
Capital One bank has asked a federal judge to dismiss a lawsuit from the Trump Organization over the closure of hundreds of bank accounts back in 2021, arguing in new papers that the shutdowns were the product of a monthslong anti-money-laundering review — not retaliation for the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, as the Trump family businesses have claimed.
In a motion to dismiss the case filed Friday in a Florida federal court, Capital One’s lawyers wrote that the bank’s own filings and the Trump businesses’ allegations “make clear that Capital One closed Plaintiffs’ accounts for anti-money laundering (‘AML’) reasons.”
Over 4 million people are no longer receiving food aid amid sweeping changes to SNAP
The largest food assistance program in the U.S. is undergoing a massive overhaul. But even before the most drastic changes take effect, more than 4 million people are estimated to have already lost the critical food aid between last July and April — many of whom are children.
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as SNAP or food stamps, has seen a rapid and consistent decline in participation since last July, the same month that a sweeping Republican tax and spending package became law. The One Big Beautiful Bill Act included major changes to the food assistance program. At the time, the White House called SNAP “bloated” and said it was failing its mission to serve as “temporary help for those who encounter tough times.”

Trump’s complaints come after his approval ratings dipped to match record lows or fell to new low points in polls from Quinnipiac University (32 percent), CNN (34 percent) and the Economist-YouGov (also 34 percent). While Trump fared better in other polls, national averages show him between 36 and 40 percent approval, down about one percentage point in recent weeks to match or set new record lows.
The CNN poll found 28 percent approved of his handling of Iran, down five points from March. A 74 percent majority said they think Trump doesn’t have a clear plan to handle the war, up seven points from March.

President Trump will travel to California and Nevada to sell his economic message this week with stops in Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
On Tuesday, the president will attend a Republican National Committee dinner at Trump National Golf Club in Los Angeles. He will then head to Las Vegas on Wednesday to tout tax cuts within the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, also known as the Working Families Tax Cut Act, at Red Rock Casino.
“President Trump will visit California on Tuesday to tout his wins for the people of the Golden State despite failed Democrat leadership: the largest middle-class tax cut ever, the most secure border in American history, and a plummeting crime rate,” White House spokesperson Olivia Wales said.
“The president will draw a sharp contrast between his commonsense agenda and the radical policies of Democrats like Gavin Newsom, who keep raising taxes, inviting rampant fraud in taxpayer-funded programs, and protecting illegal immigrant drug dealers, rapists, and murderers,” she continued.
