Farmers and experts agree the farming industry is in a painful recession, with Trump’s trade war cutting access to markets, wars in Iran and Ukraine skyrocketing fertilizer and diesel fuel costs, and higher interest rates on loans leaving farmers like Yeley unsure if their farms will yield a profit this year, even with prices for soybeans and corn up.
“We’re not a big county, but we’ve had three farmers go under this year,” said Yeley. “I know that’s on the minds of everybody, is it really worth it to keep going on? The stress level is pretty high.” — CNN

President Donald Trump will announce a plan for a $15 billion steel mill in Iowa on Monday.
Mesabi Metallics is building the plant with the aim of starting production by 2030, a White House official said. The facility is expected to produce 10 million tons of steel a year and create as many as 1,750 permanent jobs in the state, the official said.
The plant will be capable of supporting defense sector requirements for high-grade steel, the official said.
