Disgraced Fundie Freak Jim Bakker Dead at 86:
With his wife, Tammy Faye, he presided over the multimillion-dollar PTL empire before his fall in the 1980s after sex and fraud scandals.
Jim Bakker, a televangelist who once led a multimillion-dollar religious empire with his wife, Tammy Faye, before a sex scandal tarnished his reputation and a conviction for fraud and conspiracy sent him to federal prison, died Oct. 5. He was 86.
His second wife, Lori, announced the death but did not cite a cause or say where he died. He had a stroke in 2020.
Mr. Bakker (pronounced “baker”) was a preacher and fundraiser on television for more than 20 years, developing a following that numbered in the millions. An ordained minister before being defrocked by his denomination, the Assemblies of God, he espoused a message that mixed wealth and success with salvation.

Woman shot 5 times by Border Patrol agent in Chicago sues government
Lawyers for Marimar Martinez filed the lawsuit on the anniversary of the shooting, saying the officer lied about her using her car as a weapon.
A woman shot by a Border Patrol agent five times in Chicago last year is suing the federal government, alleging the officer lied about her using her car as a weapon while intervening in an immigration operation.
In her lawsuit seeking unspecified damages, Martinez says Exum shot her while she was in her car and “presented no risk of harm to anyone”; that he failed to comply with use-of-force policies; and that he swerved his car into the path of hers, “thereby leaving her no time to react and causing a collision between the vehicles.”
