Trump Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced on Friday she was giving her last briefing before going on maternity leave.
“I’m about ready to have a baby any minute, so I will see you guys very soon,” said the 28-year-old Trump interpreter.
She and her husband Nicholas Riccio are expecting their second child next week, according to Politico. Their son Niko was born in July 2024.
It is not clear how long she will be gone, nor who will be taking over the podium for her.
The Trump communication team says various people will take over in her absence, and suggested JD Vance or Donald Trump himself may fill in.
Leavitt joked that all the press members have Trump’s personal phone number, as reported last month by The Atlantic. Apparently his phone number was traded among journalists and was called “the worst-kept secret in Washington” by Semafor.
