New York Knicks fans are blaming Trump for jinxing the team’s 13-game winning streak when he inconvenienced attendees and the city by attending Game 3, only to “rest his eyes” after getting massively booed. The San Antonio Spurs defeated the Knicks 115-111.
Trump’s decision to attend the game spurred much stricter security protocols.
Several blocks around Madison Square Garden were closed to most vehicle and pedestrian traffic, and fans were told to plan on arriving two hours earlier. A no bag policy was enforced, and a watch party outside the Garden was cancelled.
When Trump was shown on the Jumbotron with his signature salute to the national anthem, he smirked as fans loudly booed. Later, Trump lied and said he heard mostly enthusiastic cheers.
Apparently a nail-biter of a game wasn’t enough to keep Trump from taking a nap during the game. He was also caught eating junk food as he was seated next to Knicks owner James Dolan and granddaughter Kai Trump.
The New York Knicks had not lost a game in 46 days and looked to take a 3-0 series lead in the best-of-seven NBA Finals. It was the first Finals game at Madison Square Garden since 1999. The Knicks fell behind early in the game but made a comeback to end the half with a 64-57 lead. But the Spurs outpaced the Knicks in the second half by 11, and ended the 13-game Knicks winning streak.
